Y5 Mini Tennis Final - Account

On Monday 19th June the Year 5 Mini Tennis team (Natalie, Sarah, James and Oliver) took part in the Kirklees finals at Longley Tennis Centre in Huddersfield. The competition was strong. We played teams from Wooldale, Lindley, Rowley lane (A + B) and Thornhill. It was a really hot morning and as we were playing on outside courts it was tiring too! We managed to draw our matches against Thornhill + Rowley B and finished in 5th place. The whole tournament was hard but we persevered and all managed to win some of our games and develop some new skills. It was a good feeling taking part and representing school.

We came in 4th place. Thank you to Mrs Goodall for supporting the team. She was very pleased with us and we all had a great time. We played 4 games and were one match away from winning the whole tournament and going through to the next stage. We were all disappointed when we lost but we were grateful to have had the chance to take part, especially as we will be leaving the school soon.

Y3 Tennis Festival

Yesterday Y3 took part in the Tennis Festival at Liversedge Tennis Club. We all walked down with Mrs Bordman, Mrs Rika and Mrs Thomas. When we got there Tom split us into teams of 8 and we all had a team leader from Spen Valley High School. We did lots of different activities like running, tennis, throwing and catching. We had great fun playing sport with children from other schools. We wish we could do it every month. We were exhausted walking back to school at lunch time.

Y5/6 Trust Football Tournament

On Wednesday the 18th of May we took part in the first Spenborough Trust Football Tournament. We played 6 matches and got through to the final against Hightown. We felt very nervous but excited that we got there. At the end of normal time it was 1-1 so we had to do penalty shoot outs. We all felt scared and most of us couldn’t look. Then, it came to the last two penalties and Connor made an amazing save. Then it was our turn and Callum scored to win the match. All our team ran and gave him a huge hug and knocked him over. We all had a fantastic afternoon and were proud to bring the trophy back to school

Last half term we went to Leeds Road Football Barn. We got mixed up into groups with other schools and did lots of activities such as running over obstacles, playing football, speed jumping and cricket. The teacher from Legacy Sport was there to help us to get more fit and active. We want to thank Legacy Sport for giving us the opportunity to get better at sport and be healthy. We really enjoyed the activities that Legacy put together.

Cheerleading ‘Big Dance Project’ - Account

On Friday 24th March we went to the John Smith’s Stadium to perform a cheerleading routine at a rugby match. We did a rehearsal at The Zone with the Huddersfield Giants Cheerleaders. Then we went to the stadium and did a parade with the band and the mascots. Our teacher Kate helped us to do our routine at half time with all the other children. We enjoyed watching the rugby game. It was awesome when they kicked the ball really high and it did a back and forth summersault!

High Five Netball Tournament – Account

On Tuesday 14th February our school attended a netball tournament at Batley Sports Centre, run by legacy sports. Nine pupils went to represent our school and we took part in lots of matches against other teams in the Kirklees area. Our school lost one match and won three. We played against Hartshead, Highbank, Norristhorpe and Whitechapel. Many pupils scored lots of goals and our school came in 5th place overall. Norristhorpe won the tournament and they all got medals. We would like to give a really big thank you to Mrs Clayton and Mrs Martin for giving us all the support we needed and also for teaching us all so much.

We all really enjoyed this amazing experience and would love to do it again.
