Our Vision
‘Good Samaritans who aspire to excellence in God’s World’
We believe that our school vision is reflected through the parable of the Good Samaritan, which the children explore at the beginning of each new school term and which is referred to throughout the school year. Children are encouraged to see the relevance of this story to the modern world and how its message applies to their own lives.
Roberttown J & I School is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled School. We are proud of our close links with All Saints Church, Roberttown. Reverend Sally, our vicar, is a regular visitors to the school. She leads Collective Worship, spends time in classes and supports work in RE.
Our most recent SIAMs inspection was in July 2019 and we are very proud of our report.
Collective WorshipDaily Collective Worship is very important to us at Roberttown. It is a time for the whole school to come together and worship as a school community.
We believe Collective Worship:
- provides an opportunity for children to worship God;
- enables children to consider and discuss spiritual and moral issues;
- allows a safe space for children to explore their own beliefs;
- develops in children a sense of community spirit;
- promotes a common ethos, with shared values, and to reinforce positive attitudes;
It is a time where we come together to share our love of God and celebrate together. The worship of the school is based on promoting our school and Christian valuesThis is done via a half termly focus on one of our Christian values with fortnightly reflective questions acting as a driver for our worship. Thursday Collective Worships are led by either a class or a pupil voice group – Befrienders, School Council or Collective Worship Group, the latter of which leads Collective Worship once a half term.
As part of our focus on endurance and courage, we celebrate the children’s achievements every Friday in a celebration Achievement Collective Worship. Children’s academic , and social qualities are celebrated including our Good Samaritan award for children and adults nominated by their peers for their kindness and thoughtfulness towards others. Once a half term we hold a Half Term Superstar’s Collective Worship to celebrate those children who have shone or endured throughout the whole of the previous half term.
The children in EYFS have a daily Collective Worship in class, known as candle time – a time when the children hear a bible story, talk about the value / question and reflect on their day.
Collective Worships always include hymns and prayers, including class prayers that are created at the start of each academic year, the school prayer written by the Collective Worship group, and the Lord’s Prayer. Children are encouraged to write prayers on our prayer tree and these are also shared during Collective Worships.
Reflection
As part of the reflection process children are encouraged to discuss the Collective Worship with their class teacher. Each of our classes also have their own Reflection Table. This is a special place in the classroom where the children can place objects that have a particular meaning for them, for example a special photograph or object. Children use the area to think about their own feelings, their relationships with others and especially their place in God’s world.
Spiritual Space
To further enhance the opportunities we offer our pupils in developing their spiritual awareness, we have developed a Spiritual Space within the school grounds as a quiet place to reflect, pray, and enjoy the peace and calm of natural surroundings.
The area has a wonderful array of plants which stimulate the senses with their bright colours, fragrance and textures. Collective worships, RE lessons and quiet classroom activities also take place in the Spiritual Space allowing children to reflect in the awe and wonder of God’s world.
Links with All Saints Church
As a school, we are very lucky to have such close links with our local Church. Rev. Sally visits us regularly, holds an annual Lent Club to enhance children’s understanding of the season.
