Safeguarding

The document ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ (March 2015) defines Safeguarding as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment;
  • preventing impairment of children's health or development;
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

In schools this refers to areas including:

  • Child protection procedures
  • Recruitment of staff and volunteers
  • Safety
  • Health and safety
  • Anti-bullying

At Roberttown we pride ourselves on working closely with parents and carers for the benefit of our pupils and to keep them safe. If you have any concerns about the safety or well-being of a child please contact Mrs Laycock-Smith, the Head Teacher, who is the Designated Safeguarding Leader (DSL). Mrs Wood, Deputy Head Teacher, is also a trained DSL and deputises for Mrs Laycock-Smith.

We review our policies and procedures regularly and value the contribution that pupils make to this through sharing their ideas in groups such as School Council, Befrienders and CARE Group.

We encourage children to share any worries and concerns at home or with the range of adults in school.

All the staff and volunteers in our school undergo training and induction in child protection procedures.

Our curriculum is reviewed and updated regularly and covers a wide range of safeguarding and safety issues including topics such as e-safety, stranger danger and water safety.

Online safety is taught discretely and as a ‘thread’ through our IT and PSHCE teaching. Mrs Smith is our trained e-safety lead.
